Bearing Fruit Artist Statement

I began this series of pastel paintings in 2006 after rendering a still life of fruit with a cloth background. The folds of the fabric and the shadows and reflected light were reminiscent of those of the human figure, and I became inspired to explore the sensuality of ripened fruit within the aesthetic of the female form. More recently, I have included the male figure in the series which has grown, as of 8/09, to twenty-two paintings.
